TFT on Mac: System Requirements (M1 to M4, macOS, FPS)
Updated on · The OS FIGHT TACTICS team
Before you dive in, one fair question: is your Mac powerful enough to run Teamfight Tactics properly? Good news: TFT is a lightweight game, and the system requirements to play it with OS FIGHT TACTICS are modest. This guide covers the exact prerequisites (chip, macOS version, disk space), the real differences between M1, M2, M3 and M4, and the performance to expect from your Mac model.
The system requirements at a glance
- Chip: Apple Silicon required, from the M1 (2020) to the latest M4 chips, including Pro, Max and Ultra variants.
- System: macOS 12 (Monterey) or later.
- Disk space: about 10 GB free for the launcher engine and the game.
- Memory: 8 GB of RAM is enough, the base configuration of every Apple Silicon Mac.
- Internet connection: needed for the initial download and to play, since TFT is an online game.
Every form factor qualifies: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac and Mac Studio. What matters is not the shape of the machine but the chip inside it. To check yours, open the Apple menu · About This Mac: if the “Chip” line shows M1, M2, M3 or M4, you are good to go.
Why an Apple Silicon chip is required
OS FIGHT TACTICS runs the genuine TFT Android app in a local environment that relies on two building blocks of Apple Silicon chips: hardware virtualization, through Apple’s Hypervisor, and GPU-accelerated OpenGL rendering. Intel Macs lack that architecture: the launcher does not support them, and this is not an artificial limit that an update could lift.
If you are still on an Intel Mac, the possible alternatives (cloud gaming in particular) are reviewed in our guide to every way of playing TFT on Mac.
M1, M2, M3 or M4: what changes in game?
TFT is not a demanding game: it is an auto-battler where most of the time is spent in the planning phase, with small-scale fights. In practice, the original M1 chip already runs the game smoothly, and later generations mostly add headroom.
- M1 (2020): the reference experience, smooth in fullscreen. It is the minimum configuration, and a comfortable one.
- M2 and M3: the same in-game feel, with more GPU headroom for an external display or multitasking (TFT on one side, a browser or Discord on the other).
- M4: maximum headroom; the game uses only a fraction of the chip and the machine stays cool and silent.
In other words: there is no need to buy a newer Mac for TFT. If your machine is Apple Silicon, it is ready.
What FPS should you expect?
The game renders in OpenGL directly on the chip’s GPU, with no software rendering: that is the major difference from generic Android emulators, which often stutter on Mac. In practice, TFT holds the frame rate the game targets (60 frames per second), including during combat animations and carousels, exactly where software rendering falls apart.
The limiting factor is therefore usually not your Mac but your internet connection. Since TFT is an online game, an unstable connection produces hitches that look like FPS drops without being them: before blaming the machine, try a match on a wired connection or close to your router.
MacBook Air, heat and battery
The MacBook Air, despite having no fan, is perfectly suited: TFT’s GPU load stays light and does not cause performance drops mid-match. On battery, a session of several games goes through without trouble; the game draws far less power than a demanding 3D title. For long ranked sessions, plugging the machine in is still the sensible move.
Disk space and installation
Plan for about 10 GB: the launcher engine, installed once, and the TFT app downloaded from the official Google Play. Game updates then happen in the background, just like on an Android phone. Once your Mac checks out, the full setup takes about ten minutes by following our step-by-step installation tutorial.
Frequently asked questions
What are the minimum requirements to play TFT on Mac?
An Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer), macOS 12 Monterey or later, about 10 GB of free disk space and an internet connection. Every form factor works: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac and Mac Studio.
Does TFT run well on a MacBook Air M1?
Yes. The M1 runs TFT smoothly in fullscreen, combat animations included. Newer chips add extra headroom but are not required.
Can I play TFT on an Intel Mac with OSFT Launcher?
No. The launcher relies on the hardware virtualization and GPU of Apple Silicon chips, which Intel Macs lack. On Intel, cloud gaming remains the most realistic alternative.
How many FPS can I expect in TFT on Mac?
GPU-accelerated OpenGL rendering lets the game hold its 60 frames per second target from the M1 onward, including during fights and carousels.
Is 8 GB of RAM enough for TFT on Mac?
Yes. TFT is a lightweight mobile app: 8 GB, the base configuration of Apple Silicon Macs, is plenty, even with a browser open next to the game.
