How to Play Teamfight Tactics on Mac After Patch 18.1

Aktualisiert am · The OS FIGHT TACTICS team

If you’re trying to run Teamfight Tactics on your Mac, the situation is now clear-cut: as of patch 18.1, macOS is no longer supported by TFT. Riot pulled support for the system at the same time it moved the game onto Unreal Engine, and says it is working to bring it back in a future update, without giving a date. The game is still available on Windows PC and on mobile (Android and iOS), but there is nothing official in between for Mac owners any more. This guide walks through the options that still work in 2026 and explains which one strikes the best balance of performance, comfort, and simplicity on any Apple Silicon Mac or MacBook (M1, M2, M3, and M4).

As of patch 18.1, macOS is no longer supported by TFT

This is the biggest change of the year for Mac players. With patch 18.1, which opens Set 18, Teamfight Tactics leaves Riot’s in-house engine and moves to Unreal Engine. That migration comes with the removal of macOS support: the game is no longer supported or patched on Mac, whether you call Apple’s system macOS or OSX (the old Mac OS X name many players still use). Riot frames the removal as temporary and says it is working to support the OS in a future update, but no return date has been announced so far.

  • Patch 18.1: Teamfight Tactics moves to Unreal Engine, at the start of Set 18.
  • macOS is no longer supported from that version onward: no support and no fixes on Mac.
  • Riot says it is working to bring macOS back in a future update, with no date announced.
  • The oldest, lowest-memory Android and iOS devices are dropped along the way as well.
  • Nothing is lost account-side: progress, rank and purchases stay tied to your Riot account.

In practice, if you were playing TFT on your Mac, you now need another route. The good news: the Android mobile version of Teamfight Tactics is still developed and updated as usual. It is what every Mac solution that still works today is built on, OS FIGHT TACTICS included.

Why there is no native TFT on Mac any more

The desktop client of TFT ships inside League of Legends, a package built for Windows and policed by the Vanguard anti-cheat. As of patch 18.1, macOS is simply no longer supported there, and compatibility layers such as Whisky or Wine hit that anti-cheat anyway. As a result, you can’t install the “desktop” version of TFT on a Mac the way you would on a Windows PC. The only truly standalone (and still supported) version of Teamfight Tactics is the mobile app, built for Android and iOS.

That mobile version is the foundation of nearly every Mac solution: you run the TFT Android app inside an environment adapted to macOS. What separates the methods is how that environment is built, and what it costs you in smoothness, comfort, and setup time.

The options for playing TFT on Mac

1. Cloud gaming

Running TFT remotely on a server and streaming the image to your Mac works, but it depends entirely on your connection. Latency makes the selection phases (the carousel) and unit repositioning less precise, and services charge a separate subscription. For a turn-based game like TFT it’s not a dealbreaker, but the experience still trails local execution.

2. Generic Android emulators

A classic Android emulator can install the TFT APK, but most are built for Windows and Intel. On Apple Silicon, rendering is often software-based (not GPU-accelerated), which produces stutter during combat animations. Setup also asks you to configure a Google account, the Play Store, and performance settings yourself.

3. Whisky, Wine, and Windows compatibility layers

These tools translate Windows calls into macOS ones. They’re excellent for many games, but they stall on TFT because of the PC client’s anti-cheat. In practice, this route doesn’t pan out for Teamfight Tactics.

4. A dedicated Apple Silicon launcher (OS FIGHT TACTICS)

This is the approach we took with OS FIGHT TACTICS. The launcher installs the real Teamfight Tactics Android app from the official Google Play, then runs it in an environment tuned for Apple Silicon chips, with GPU-accelerated OpenGL rendering. In practice, you play with a keyboard, in fullscreen, with smooth animations, and without modifying your system.

  • Installs TFT from the real Google Play: no APK juggling.
  • GPU-accelerated OpenGL rendering built for M1 and later.
  • Keyboard and fullscreen play, with no manual configuration.
  • No changes to your macOS system.

Which method should you pick?

If you just want to test and can accept an occasionally choppy image, a generic emulator or cloud gaming will do in a pinch. If you play regularly and smoothness matters (repositioning units between fights, reading the board without stutter), a dedicated Apple Silicon launcher remains the most comfortable option. That’s the whole point of OS FIGHT TACTICS: remove the tinkering and bring the Mac experience closer to a real desktop client. When you’re ready to set it up, follow our step-by-step installation tutorial.

Recommended setup

  • An Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer).
  • macOS 12 (Monterey) or later.
  • A stable internet connection for the initial download and matches.

Frequently asked questions

Does Teamfight Tactics have an official Mac version?

No, and definitely not since patch 18.1: Riot removed macOS support when it moved TFT to Unreal Engine. The studio says it is working to bring it back in a future update, with no date announced. Mac solutions today rely on the game’s Android mobile version, run inside an adapted environment.

Why does TFT no longer launch on my Mac?

Because patch 18.1 removed macOS support. Nothing is wrong with your machine: support was pulled on Riot’s side during the move to Unreal Engine. To keep playing on Mac you now have to go through the Android version of the game, run locally with a launcher built for Apple Silicon.

Will macOS support come back to TFT?

Riot frames the patch 18.1 removal as temporary and says it is working to support the OS in a future update. No date has been announced, and no macOS fixes are shipped in the meantime.

Can you play TFT on an Intel Mac?

Some methods work on Intel, but performance is far better on Apple Silicon. OS FIGHT TACTICS is optimized for M1 chips and newer.

Does TFT work on a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?

Yes. Any Apple Silicon MacBook (Air or Pro, M1 through M4) runs Teamfight Tactics smoothly through the launcher: the game is light enough that even a fanless MacBook Air holds a stable framerate. Intel MacBooks are the exception, as performance there falls short.

Can you play TFT Set 18 on OSX?

OSX (or Mac OS X) is simply the former name of macOS, so the answer is the same: the official client no longer runs there since patch 18.1, but TFT Set 18 plays perfectly on a Mac through the Android version, run locally with a launcher built for Apple Silicon.

Is playing TFT on Mac allowed?

You play the genuine Teamfight Tactics mobile app with your own Riot account. No modification is made to the game.

Is my account and progress kept?

Yes. You log in with your usual Riot account: your progress, Little Legends, and rank carry over across every platform.
